Some of Barbados’ most inspiring teachers will be honoured through the RF National Distinguished Teachers’ Awards. The programme, established in 2010, rewards ten (10) outstanding teachers who exemplify excellence with BDS $2,000 each and other prizes.
Through their efforts, teachers make a difference in each student’s life and by extension positively impact communities and society as a whole. However, these educators are oftentimes not acknowledged for their immense contribution and accordingly, RF introduced the Awards with an understanding of the critical role exceptional teachers play and to give these remarkable individuals their due recognition.
The nomination period ran from October 21st to November 30th, 2019, with nominations open to both public and private schools island-wide. Members of the public were urged to nominate teachers with no less than five years’ teaching experience as at October 31st, 2019 across Nursery, Primary, Secondary, Sixth Form, Special Needs and Tertiary categories. The ‘Blue Ribbon Judging Panel’, comprised of prominent and respected persons from the education field, will ultimately choose the ten (10) finalists
Persons who took the time to nominate teachers had the chance to win weekly prizes; with Catherine Smith, Shanna Ward, Kerry Lane, Tracess Yarde, Bhavika Panjwani and Shanelle Forde finding themselves in winners’ row!
